At TEIDE REFRACTORY SOLUTIONS, we have developed and manufactured a custom refractory part designed to support fire resistance tests for lithium batteries, in accordance with United Nations Regulation No. 100, concerning the approval of electric vehicles and the safety of their energy storage systems (UNECE R100 Rev.3).
The part was designed based on technical specifications outlined in the regulation’s annex: a perforated plate of 240 × 120 × 70 mm featuring 15 holes (Ø30 mm), 6 side cutouts, and an effective open area of 44.18%, providing optimal ventilation and thermal resistance during testing.
Development and validation based on technical standards
To meet the necessary requirements, multiple test iterations were performed, adjusting:
- Raw material compositions
- Pressingngng parameters
- Firingngng curves
Tests were conducted in accordance with UNE-EN ISO standards:
- UNE-EN ISO 993-12: Determination of pyroscopic resistance
- UNE-ENN ISO 1893:2008: Determination of refractoriness under load
The result was a certified refractory grade capable of withstanding the extreme conditions of lithium battery
safety testing.
✅ This project highlights our ability to deliver tailor-made technical solutions aligned with international regulations, serving critical sectors such as e-mobility and safe energy storage.
