As is customary every year, TEIDE REFRACTORY SOLUTIONS opened its doors to students in their final year of the 2014-2018 Materials Engineering Programme at the School of Chemical Engineering of Barcelona University (UB), imparted by Doctor Javier Fernandez of the 3-D Biomaterials Department.
The purpose of the visit was to allow future engineers to learn about the operations of a refractory materials company, its production processes and how to design different types of refractory concrete (classic, self-adhesive, thixotropic and pump cast) and other types of refractory materials, such as paints and mortars.
The students’ questions about the functioning of the refractory materials were responded to with a simple practical session at the end of the visit in which the students had the opportunity to mix different types of refractory concrete with their hands to help them understand the intended final use of these materials.
